Maps of Tennessee are a great resource to help learn about a place at a particular point in time. Old Tennessee maps are effective sources of geographical information and useful for historical, genealogical and territorial research.

Historical Maps of Tennessee are a great resource to help learn about a place at a particular point in time. Tennessee Maps are vital historical evidence but must be interpreted cautiously and carefully.
Tennessee Maps can be very useful in conducting research, especially in light of the now extinct communities. Also, because old Tennessee maps were usually commissioned by the county seat, they often display information about the county, including town names.
There are civil district maps, early surveyors’ maps, and many other Tennessee maps on file at the Tennessee State Library and Archives.
They also have both current and historical maps on file, including topographical maps from the U.S. Geological Survey. Some Ocoee District plat books and Mountain District grants can also be found there.

This Historical Tennessee Map Collection are from original copies. Most historical maps of Tennessee were published in atlases and spans over 250 years of growth for the state.

Tennessee County Maps of Road and Highway’s
The Tennessee D.O.T. Highway Department has prepared a series of county road maps. These maps contain more detailed information about man-made features than the geological survey maps.
In addition to roads and boundaries, these maps include rural communities, churches, and cemeteries. These Tennessee maps are Free to downloade are in PDF format.
Tennessee City Map of Road and Highway’s
The Tennessee D.O.T. Highway Department has prepared a series of 2016 city road maps. The Tennessee city maps are now available in Adobe PDF format. Every effort was made to precisely duplicate the digital city map files. TDOT, however, realizes that some errors or omissions may have occurred during the conversion process.
